My Team Building Recount

My Horrid Slime Activity Experience

Let me tell you about the year 7 team building activity I participated in, trust me it was very interesting. It was also time for the year 8 camp. I decided not to go to camp with the other year 8 students. It was my first time at Pt England so I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t ready for all the activities we were going to have.

I was put into the orange team, which was named orange justice, and I gladly joined them. I really enjoyed the first few activities like cooking, but I didn’t expect to have a slime activity. I was really excited when I heard we were having that, because I used to make a lot of slime back in the day.

Other kids started telling me that all of their slimes failed. I started to get a bit scared that my slime wouldn’t work either. I could smell all the slime coming from room 5. It made me want to spew. I saw a lot of slime on the ground which made my hopes go down even more. I started to question myself “ Is this activity even a good idea anymore?”

We were about to walk into the room filled with monstrosity. I started regretting my life choices right there and then. “Okay year 7’s grab a partner and sit on a desk!” yelled Ms. Salu. It took awhile for everyone to calm down, because the others were running around the room. Eventually everyone was sat on a chair and ready to make slime. Sophia and I decided to team up and try our best despite all our bad feelings.

It was time to start, we were given a piece of paper that included a picture of slime and a list of instructions. Sophia and I followed (not really) the instructions and got everything we needed. It took us really long to find a bowl and a clean spoon because everyone took it all. We eventually found one and started pouring in the glue. We then added shaving cream, then mixed it all together. It looked like a really good consistency, but then the instructions told us to add cornstarch… so we did. We added the borax and started to combine it all. It looked really weird and it wouldn’t activate at all. I thought that it was probably the cornstarch because normally you wouldn’t add that into slime.

I started making other slimes with different ingredients, none of them would work. “Sophia we’re failures.” I said. “I know.” Sophia sadly replied. I started to give up and decided to watch everyone else attempt to fix their failures. I could see everyone carelessly pouring stuff into their slime which made a big mess. I could smell it all and I hated it so much. Someone said they made “slime” even though it was technically dough. Someone also dropped a bowl with slime on the floor. It was chaos! I learned that not everything that’s planned would go right.

On the next day, The last teams to make slime succeeded. I felt really sad when I heard about it. I saw them all playing with the slime. It made me think “Well, there’s always next time.” So that was my failed slime activity pretty bad eh?
