We are learning to read and present data through graphs
Next we will need to present the data in a graph. This will illustrate our findings.
Mrs Stone will show you some examples of different graphs. You will find that some graphs are better suited to different types of data. Note the pros and cons of each graph below
Pie Graph
Pros: The pie graph shows us a nice idea of what a specific quantity there are in each slice, good for percentages
Cons: We wouldn’t be able to put too many.
Bar Graph
Note, a few students said that their fave pet was a possum...
Pros: Bar graphs can work for finding comparisons for data
Cons: If the gaps between each number shown on the chart are really big, we wouldn’t be able to tell if only one person voted for this specific thing.
Strip Graph
Pros: They show us a nice idea when we want to compare something with other things
Cons: It doesn't show us a specific number, we also won’t be able to line it up properly
Line Graph
Line graphs are usually used to show how one thing changes over time. If we were looking at two things on the same line graph - e.g. imagine we were looking at the number of people in Countdown and people in Pak n Save in a day, there would be a line for each supermarket in different colours.
Pros: They’re good for tracking changes over short and long periods of time.
Cons: They might look confusing at times.
